The first workshop starts in ...

Knit Shawls With Confidence
(Not Confusion!)

You cast on full of excitement … but then the stitch counts don’t add up.
The chart looks like a secret code.
That precious skein of yarn sits abandoned in the corner. You’re not alone.
Shawl knitting is beautiful ... but it can also be one of the most confusing knitting projects.
And it’s all too easy to get stuck before you even begin.

Look at a pattern and instantly understand the shape, the construction, and where it’s going
Read charts without fear (even if you’ve never used one before!)
Finish a shawl you’re proud to wear, gift, or show off
That’s exactly what this workshop is here to help you do.

In this live virtual workshop, you’ll learn:

Hey there! I’m Jessica Ays, the designer and instructor behind Double the Stitches & the host of the Stitch Society Membership.
I’ve been a passionate creator my whole life, and I haven't put the yarn down since I first picked it up 25 years ago.
Shawls have always held a special place in my knitting journey. They’re beautiful, versatile, and endlessly fun to make ... but I still remember staring at my first shawl pattern, totally lost in the shaping, increases, and mysterious charts. My excitement quickly turned into frustration.
If you’ve ever felt the same, you’re not alone! That’s why I created this workshop ... to demystify shawl knitting and give you the clarity you need to cast on with confidence.
Together, we’ll explore shawl shapes, shawl styling, yarn choices, and chart basics so you can enjoy the process and finish shawls you’ll be proud to wear (or gift!).
I can’t wait to help make shawl knitting feel exciting, not intimidating.

You’re curious about shawl knitting but don’t know where to start.
This class will give you the foundations you need so you can dive in with confidence.
You know your knitting basics and you’re ready to learn more. If you can knit, purl, and follow simple patterns, this workshop will help you step confidently into shawl knitting.
You’ve tried shawl knitting before and felt confused by shaping, increases, or charts.
We’ll break everything down step by step so it finally makes sense.
You’ve struggled with shawl patterns before. No more half-finished shawls! You’ll finally understand shapes and their charts so you can cast on with confidence, and finish with pride.
You crave clarity, not confusion. Live teaching, visual examples, and clear resources will make shawl knitting feel simple and fun.

Real Questions from other Knitters
- Do I need to be an expert knitter to benefit from this workshop? No, not at all! I break everything down step by step. This workshop is perfect for adventurous intermediate knitters who are familiar with the basics and ready to learn new techniques. If you can knit and purl, you’ll be able to follow along.
- What if I can’t attend live?No problem. You’ll get full replay access. Watch (and rewatch) whenever it fits your schedule, whenever you need a refresher, or want to practice a shawl shape again.
- Do I need special supplies?Nope - just bring your favorite yarn and needles.
Recommended knitting needle size for a shawl depends on the yarn weight and stitch pattern, but you generally use a needle 3-4 sizes larger than what the yarn label suggests to create a fabric with a beautiful drape.
Lace or fingering weight yarns: US 6 - 7 needles;
Sport or DK weight yarns: US 8 - 9 needles;
Worsted weight yarns: US 10 - 10½ needles. - Will I learn how to read charts?Yes! You’ll get a friendly, beginner-focused intro to charts, with examples that make sense.
- How will I access the workshop? The workshop will be held live on Zoom. The link to join us will be shared on our online website classroom and sent by email before each session.
All you need is a computer or tablet, an internet connection, and a cozy spot to settle in and learn at your own pace (comfy clothes encouraged!). - When will the replay be available? The edited replay will be added to our online website classroom by October 11th. You'll receive an email from me when it is ready to watch.
- Is there any pre-work required to be ready for the workshop? No, there is nothing you need to do in advance of watching the workshop.
- Are the lessons transcribed?Yes. All sessions have transcription available through the media player I use (vimeo).
Please reach out if there’s anything I can do to ensure you’re able to enjoy this event. - What is the refund policy?Due to the digital delivery, there are no refunds for this workshop.
- I still have questions! If you have a question before purchasing, feel free to send me an email at hello@doublethestitches.com.
